Jon Fish: Journey of a Contemporary Artist

About Jon Fish Artist.

A comprehensive overview of Jonathon Fish’s background in art and audio cable manufacturing. It outlines his artistic influences, early struggles with dyslexia, and his eventual success as an artist with exhibitions and commissions worldwide.

How I Got Here!

For as long as I can remember, I have always been drawn to art and creativity. From an early age, I would spend countless hours sketching, painting, and building elaborate LEGO spaceships. These creations were inspired by my fascination with the space age and its boundless possibilities.

Influences on Early Work

Pink Floyd. The heavy metal and fantasy themes of Rainbow. The imaginative landscapes of Roger Dean. The dark and disturbing imagery of Giger.

These influences shaped my aesthetic and narrative style, leading to a unique blend of fantasy, surrealism, and the grotesque.

My early work was shaped by various influences, including:

Pink Floyd: The experimental and psychedelic elements of Pink Floyd’s music influenced the narrator’s artistic style.

Rainbow: The heavy metal and fantasy themes of Rainbow’s music influenced the narrator’s aesthetic and narrative style.

Roger Dean: Dean’s iconic fantasy landscapes inspired the narrator’s own imaginative and surreal imagery.

Giger: Giger’s biomechanical and grotesque art influenced the narrator’s darker and more disturbing imagery.

The Formative Years

Space Age

Growing up during the space age had a profound impact on my aspirations. I dreamed of becoming an astronaut, living in a Yes house, fighting aliens, and painting fantasy worlds. However, my journey took an unexpected turn when a teacher in junior school informed me that I could not read. This devastating blow to my confidence led me to give up on reading altogether.

Dyslexia

Thankfully, my parents fought for me and had me assessed. I was diagnosed with dyslexia, a condition that was not well-understood at the time. Despite this challenge, I persevered and eventually developed my own unique artistic style.

College

After finishing school, I received offers from three colleges in Nottingham based on my artwork. I made the wrong choice and stayed in the course for only a year. Then, I moved on to focus on creating and selling my art.
